Like any part that gets daily use, balloons wear out and need replacing, and there are two different systems they come in. Quick answer: Your Volcano uses one of two balloon systems. The Easy Valve (which comes standard on every Volcano) is a pre-assembled balloon-and-valve you swap as a whole unit — simplest for most people. The Solid Valve is an optional, more durable system where you reuse the valve and replace only the bag material, which is the most economical option over years of heavy use. The Easy Valve is what your Volcano ships with, and it’s built for convenience. The balloon and the valve come already joined together, so there’s nothing to assemble — you attach it, fill it, and go. A starter set includes several ready-to-use balloons plus one adapter, which lets you snap a fresh balloon onto a reusable mouthpiece. When a balloon wears out, you simply swap in a new one. It’s the simplest way to use a Volcano, and it’s what most owners stick with.
Solid Valve (optional upgrade)
The Solid Valve is a separate, more heavy-duty system. Instead of a pre-made balloon, you get a reusable valve and a length of bag material that you cut and attach yourself. It takes a little assembly, but it has two advantages for heavy users: the valve is built to survive years of use and cleaning, and because you replace only the bag material (sold by the roll), it’s the cheapest option per bag over the long run. It’s the pick for daily users who want maximum durability and economy.
Both systems are fully compatible with the Volcano Classic and the Volcano Hybrid — the choice is about how you like to use it, not which machine you own.
How to replace your Volcano bag
Replacing an Easy Valve bag
- Let the Volcano and valve cool completely before handling.
- Twist off the used Easy Valve balloon from the adapter (the ring that holds the mouthpiece).
- Take a fresh Easy Valve balloon and press/twist it onto the adapter until it’s secure.
- That’s it — the mouthpiece is reused, only the balloon is new. If you want a shorter bag, you can trim the balloon to your preferred length before use.
Replacing a Solid Valve bag
- Let everything cool, then remove the old bag material from the valve pieces.
- Cut a new length of Solid Valve bag material to your preferred size from the roll.
- Attach the mouthpiece cap to one end and the valve to the other, following the fold/clip method the Solid Valve set uses.
- Reuse the valve and mouthpiece indefinitely — you’re only ever replacing the bag material.
Tip: whichever system you have, keep a spare balloon or a length of bag material on hand so a worn bag never interrupts a session.
How often should you replace a Volcano balloon?
There’s no fixed schedule — it depends on how often you use it — but replace a balloon when you notice any of these:
- It’s gone cloudy or discolored and no longer clears.
- It’s holding vapor poorly or you notice small leaks or a loose fit.
- The taste is off, even after cleaning, or the material feels stiff or worn.
For a daily user, Easy Valve balloons are often refreshed every few months; lighter users get much longer. Solid Valve bag material tends to last well and is cheap to replace when it does wear. Replacing a tired bag is the single easiest way to keep your Volcano’s vapor tasting clean and fresh.
Which bags do you need? (a quick buyer’s guide)
- You have the standard setup → you need Easy Valve replacements. Look for the Easy Valve Balloon with Adapter (reusable mouthpiece + fresh balloon) or an Easy Valve replacement set (several balloons).
